To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu I am thinking of purchasing the subject HT and would like comments form current W21AT owners. Specifically, if you're happy with the transmit and receive audio, what the radio is like when you run it mobile, it's performance on packet, etc. Thanks for reading this. Don't know about stability. But it goes from 100 khz - 2 ghz, am, nfm, wfm, lsb, usb, cw, + attenuator, all under serial port control. A little pricy at $1000, but it's only a hobby. E-mail if I can be more help. You could build a unit for RTTY and another for WEFAX but you still wouldn't have Morse. See if you can pick up a multi-mode TNC (like the PK-232 I am willing to sell) and you will be in business. 73 DE K6DDX ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Mar 1994 23:35:35 GMT From: pacbell.com!amdahl!netcomsv!netcomsv!bongo!julian@ames.arpa Subject: HEATHKIT CORP!! Used it in the CQ WPX contest this weekend with a lot of success. It is very impressive for tthe type of rig it is. I did put it in my car and test it.. it doesn't have a noise blanker .. It may just be my car.. but didn't do too well.. I just hooked it in the cigarette lighter.. need to try to go directly to the battery and put a noise filter on it before I really would put it down. It works great off a gel cell.. have had GREAT audio reports on the rig. Had a DX station stop in the contest when I told him what I was using. he started to laugh and told me I was the loudest signal coming into him with a large pileup.. I was using a Quad .. which helped. but with all the high powered stations on with good antennas.. was real impressed with the MFJ I really like the receiver. .and the mike that you can get with it has a good feel to it. 73 Jeff, AC4HF ------------------------------ Date: 27 Mar 1994 21:33:26 GMT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!ucsnews!sol.ctr.columbia.edu!howland.reston.ans.net!noc.near.net!ctron-news.ctron.com!dur-news.ctron.com!slama@network.ucsd.edu Subject: Yaesu FT-11 To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu Anyone out there have an FT-11? With the mod, one can rx(tx) upto 180 MHzs then there is a gap until you get to 300 MHz (rx) or 400 MHz (rx/tx). Would have be nice if the 220 band was included. Then we all would have tri-band tranceivers. My FT530 still has it intact. :) : Did you remember to go back into set mode to reset it? Yes, I did, but it still didn't work. Mine may be a 'later generation' model, and this may be a side-effect of that. My set of jumper pads is not two parallel lines, if that means it is a later model. 73 de Ed / VE3ZVZ ------------------------------ End of Ham-Equip Digest V94 #83 ******************************
